Asplund, the
last American survivor of the sinking of the Titanic, died in
May 2006 at the age of 99. She was 5 years old when the
Titanic sank after hitting an iceberg on April 15, 1912. Her
father and three brothers died in the disaster along with nearly
1,500 other people.
